Plant Profile: Philodendron Rojo Congo
This lush-leaved beauty, with stunning red stems, will surely add some jungle
vibes to your home and garden.
The Congo Rojo is different from many other philodendrons because it doesn’t
have a climbing habit. Growing instead in a ‘self-heading’ manner, extending
both outward and upward.
Overview & Care
Official name:
Rojo Congo Philodendron
Also known as:
Philodendron tatei
Origins & climate:
South America | Tropical & Subtropical
Position:
Philodendrons thrive in warm and well-lit positions with bright indirect
light. They don’t like sudden temperature fluctuations, so keep them away from
drafts, heaters, or air cons.
Water:
Water the plant when the top inch of soil is dry. Water moderately and
regularly so the soil is consistently moist but not soggy. Don’t overwater, as
it can lead to fungal issues and root rot.
Soil:
This plant thrives in rich, good quality and well-draining potting mix. Ensure
your pot has good drainage, and pour out excess water in the drainage tray.
Extra tips: Clean the leaves occasionally with a soft, damp cloth. You can
also prune off damaged or dying leaves to keep your plant looking good and in
tip-top shape.
This plant is toxic to both humans and animals.
